Many participants in our Manchester 2020 Quadrant Discovery Workshops have mentioned preserving and promoting agriculture in town as a potential goal for the Manchester 2020 plan. MAPA, the Manchester Agriculture Preservation Association, is a community group whose mission is to do just that. Currently, MAPA is organizing two "work parties" on Sunday, October 10th and is working to create edible school yards in Manchester. Check out the MAPA blog HERE.
Planning for Agriculture is another useful site for those interested in preserving farms and farming in Connecticut. The site outlines the economic, fiscal, environmental and recreational benefits of local agriculture and includes tools some municipalities have used to protect agricultural land and promote local farming viability.
