Study Says Walkable Neighborhoods Have Happier People

One of the major themes that came out of the Quadrant meetings was a desire for walkable neighborhoods. A recent University of New Hampshire study points to some interesting benefits of living in a neighborhood that can be considered walkable. The researchers found residents in neighborhoods with higher Walk Score ratings reported being happier and healthier and and were more apt to volunteer and work on community projects. In Manchester, we are fortunate in that we already have many neighborhoods that can be considered walkable. Go to Walkscore.com to find out your neighborhood's "walkscore". (This blogger got a 65).
